Talking CCTV: 14 Days in...

A fortnight on from the launch of ´Talking CCTV´s´ in the City Centre, the first fixed penalty notice has been handed out.
The £75 fixed penalty notice was issued by Community Protection Officers to a man who failed to pick up litter after repeated requests from camera operators.
The 6 cameras, stationed throughout the City Centre have been deployed around 20 times since being switched on on the 11th July. The aim of talking CCTV is to challenge litterbugs and those behaving anti-socially.
James Rhodes from Nottingham Crime and Drugs Partnership said:
´The initial results from the pilot are encouraging. To date we have used the equipment 20 times in regard to low level anti-social behaviour ranging from litter dropping to drinking in an alcohol controlled zone.
On all but one occasion the individuals took heed of the warnings and in that particular incidence where the individual ignored the warning it resulted in a £75 fine. It is hoped that the equipment will emphasis that acting anti-socially is not acceptable and those seen behaving in an inappropriate manner will be publicly challenged, and as we have seen, those who choose to ignore warnings will be dealt with appropriately via enforcement action.
The CDP will continue to monitor the effectiveness of the equipment to assess if this is something worth expanding as part of a range of interventions to tackle anti-social behaviour.´
