Winners of a competition to highlight the dangers of driving while under the influence of drugs are announced today (25th July 2007).

The pair took part in an online survey hosted by Trent FM and RAM FM as part of a Drug Driving Campaign, launched in March in association with Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire Police, Green Flag Assurance, and the crime reduction partnerships of Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire.

Chris Read from Nottingham will be presented with a portable game console by a Trent FM DJ and Alan Given Chief Executive of the Crime and Drugs Partnership.

Becki from Derby will be presented with her prize on the same day at the RAM FM in Derby.

The Drug Driving Survey

A series of drug related questions were asked and the respondents could remain anonymous by simply supplying a pay as you go phone number and first name. This increased the chance of obtaining honest answers.

This research was undertaken by placing a competition on the web sites of Trent FM and RAM FM. A link from the web sites went directly to an online survey which was completed for a chance to win a PSP.

A total of 976 people responded to the pre-campaign survey and 531 responded to the second survey which ran during the campaign. Both surveys were identical and ran for 4 weeks each.

The results of the survey found that people´s awareness of the penalties for anyone caught drug driving had increased by 45%, respondents who were very concerned about being caught drug driving by the Police had almost doubled since the campaign had begun.
