Nottingham Stands Together

Nottingham is one of England´s eight Core Cities and the social and economic capital of the East Midlands with a population of more than 600,000 in the city and its conurbation. It is a modern, cosmopolitan city, one of the fastest growing in the UK, one of the best places to shop outside London and a first choice destination for business, pleasure and higher education.

Like other parts of the country, however, Nottingham also experiences crime, and some of this crime is very serious and violent, but Nottingham is not alone in having these problems. In fact, serious violent crime represents only a small proportion of overall crime, and the chances of being a victim of a violent offence are very low.

Gun crime is understandably regarded as particularly worrying by the public, and creates fear and tension in communities. A small number of isolated but high profile shootings have also damaged the image of Nottingham, particularly among people who do not know the reality of life in Nottingham, the people who live and work here. This is why it is important to prioritise a series of interventions to reduce the level and impact of gun crime.

Nottingham Stands Together (NST) was formed as a result of the death of Danielle Beccan, bringing agencies and partners who have a vested interest in tackling gun crime and the reasons behind it together.

More information regarding the work of the group, along with the NST Strategy will be made available shortly.
