Drugs & Alcohol Introduction
Nottingham Crime & Drugs Partnership are responsible for the delivery of the governments 10 year drug strategy at a local level. The strategy aims to reduce the damage drug use can cause to individuals, families and communities by:
- Preventing young people from becoming drug misusers
- Reducing the supply of illegal drugs
- Increasing the number of individuals accessing effective drug treatment
- Reducing drug-related crime
Objectives:
- To expand services appropriate to individual needs, by 2008 we will have capacity to treat 3000 drug users
- To expand services within the criminal justice system using every opportunity to engage drug misusing offenders in treatment
- To deliver services to those communities identified as having the greatest problems in terms of substance misuse
- To provide after care and through care services such as appropriate housing, education and employment to ensure those leaving treatment avoid the revolving door back into addiction and offending
We will achieve this by:
- Having a comprehensive understanding of local problem drug use and need
- Using this understanding to develop locally responsive strategies and policies in relation to drug and alcohol use
- Commissioning a full range of drug and alcohol services to meet the local need and support problem drug users to make positive changes to their lifestyle
- Commissioning a range of criminal justice based treatment interventions to target drug using offenders into treatment
