Drug Interventions Programme

The Drug Interventions Programme (DIP), established by the Home Office in 2003, provides a beginning-to-end enhanced support system for drug using offenders.

Restrictions on Bail, which came into force in May 2004, gives courts the power to apply restrictions to offenders bail terms and conditions requiring them to comply with drug treatment programmes.

Successful delivery of the Drug Intervention Programme involves strong partnership working and integrated care pathways between custody suites, courts, probation, the police force and drug treatment. Locally the Criminal Justice Intervention Team (CJIT) is instrumental in care co-ordinating treatment for drug using offenders.
