Burglary Reduction Team

Who are the Burglary Reduction Team?

The Burglary Reduction Team (BRT) is made up of officers employed by Nottingham City Council - there are 4 officers, and 1 Team Leader and are based in the City Centre.

The team covers the whole of the City and offers:
  • Crime Reduction Advice
  • Target Hardening
  • Smartwater
Currently the BRT is working to the Weeks of Action, and there current target is a 1000 houses per Week of Action. Since the programme began, more than 44,475 homes across the City have had property smartwatered.

Neighbourhood Policing Teams and other partners are being trained in the application of Smartwater.

SmartWater signs are being distributed and attached to lampposts in area areas where SmartWatering has been completed.

For more information about Smartwater and the BRT, please contact the team at the number opposite and ask for Jon.

What can you do to reduce your chances of becoming a victim of burglary?

Please follow these simple steps:
  • Always ensure you leave your property secure, including closing windows during the Summer
  • If you are to the rear of your property, ensure the front is secure, to ensure there's no chance of a walk-in burglary
  • Ensure you follow the Stop-Chain-Check rule for unsolicited callers
  • Ensure your alarm is activated
  • Cancel your newspapers or other periodicals while on holiday
  • Tell as many trustworthy neighbours and friends that you will be away and encourage them to visit your house.
  • Try to avoid routine when leaving or entering the house, especially during dark nights.
  • Consider investing in a time-switch which will operate lamps and other appliances.
  • If you suspect anything, then call 999 immediately, or call Crimestoppers.
These are a few of the simple steps you can take, for further advice, please contact Jon.
