Burglary Reduction - Introduction

With the Crime & Drugs Partnership, we are commited to reducing Burglary Dwelling by 14.0% over 2007/08 baseline by 31st March 2010 across the City.

We are also looking at reducing Burglary Other by 6% by 31st March 2010, and we are currently achieving a -28.90% reduction (correct to end August 2009).

Our current performance for burglary dwelling is reduction of -22.78% (Official Police data correct end August 2009).

How are we going to achieve this reduction?

We currently run a 6-weekly themed group, which is attended by all relevant partner agencies, which include voluntary sector, statutory partners, and non-statutory partners, including Neighbourhood Watch.

If you wish to get involved with your local Neighbourhood Watch, and get involved in the decisions around tackling burglary, then please follow the link on this page, on how to join your local Neighbourhood Watch Scheme.

We use innovative, and creative ideas to resolve the underlying issues of burglary in Nottingham City, such as:
  • Offender Management and profiling
  • The use of civil as well as criminal law to deter offender activities
  • Target Hardening which includes Smartwater. To find out more about Smartwater, click the link on this page.
  • Data Analysis, by using official Police operational data we are able to produce Hotspot Maps of geographical sites across the City, which allow us to focus our attention with regards to burglaries.
We value our partnerships, both nationally and locally and are in constant contact to share best practice. Who are our partners?
  • Central and local Government
  • Neighbouring Forces
  • Relevant private organisations
  • The Voluntary sector
  • Other Statutory and non-Statutory bodies
  • Local Communities
